NEW NEWS

New Generator -

Because of the flood of 2005, the department did an assessment of it's capabilities in a large scale emergency. It was determined that we fell short in providing adequate emergency shelter for our residents. A committee was formed and they proposed adding a larger generator that would provide lighting, heat, and air-conditioning if needed for the whole building. This is being installed at this time. It is one of those items that you hope you never have to use, but plan on having what is needed just in case.

New Breathing Air Cascade System -

Our department was awarded a grant from FEMA to upgrade the Breathing Air Cascade System that we use to refill the air bottles needed in structure and vehicle fires, and in environments where lethal gas may be present. This will also allow us to upgrade our bottles to hold more air so that we can stay on scene longer.

New 1st Responder Rescue Truck Ordered -

We had also formed a committee to analyze our emergency vehicles to see if we could upgrade these units to provide better and faster emergency responses. This group found that at the present time we have one backup pumper that is 27 years old, and our rescue unit is 22 years old. It was their suggestion to combine these units into one vehicle that could do both functions.
It was voted on to purchase a new 1st responder unit that has the capabilities to fight fires, carry our rescue equipment such as Jaws, air bags, and spreader equipment for vehicle accidents. It will also be equipped as a Medic Unit so that emergency first aid can be performed until transportation arrives, or as a second on-scene unit. This will be a tremendous leap forward in emergency responses for our residents. It is tentatively set for delivery in March-May of 2008.
This unti was delivered in April of 2008, and was put into service in May after extensive training from all members. Please see the "Emergency Vehicles" section for more details and pictures.
